Royal Challengers Bengaluru confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that Josh Hazlewood will return to the playing XI for Wednesday’s home clash against Lucknow Super Giants, replacing the young pacer Vasuki Koushik in what head coach Andy Flower called a “straight like-for-like swap”.

RCB’s head of medical, Dr. Manish Kumar, said the Australian quick had completed his rehab benchmarks in 11 days — ahead of the original 14-day projection — and that the decision to bring him back was driven by form as much as by availability.
“Josh has had three full sessions in the nets and one simulation session at the M. Chinnaswamy nets, where the surface is closest to what we’ll face on Wednesday. The numbers he’s hit in those sessions suggest his lengths are back, not just his body,” Dr. Kumar said.
Why it matters tactically
RCB’s death-over bowling in Hazlewood’s absence has been a structural weakness. In the four matches he missed, RCB conceded 9.4 runs per over in the final four — the third-worst mark in the league. Bringing Hazlewood back gives the side a second specialist powerplay option alongside Yash Dayal, and shortens the death overs by one “vulnerable” over.
